Thy name is JAYSON Castro |
In Game 6, down 2-3 in the Finals, there was no one on the floor who wanted it more than Jayson Castro. Hell, there was no one on the court even near his level-- and he's doing so much damage for the Talk 'b Text Tropang Texters' cause despite playing with two bad ankles and a host of leg injuries.
Granted, teammate Ranidel de Ocampo awoke from his deep slumber and buried some crucial threes, but it was Castro who kept his team from squandering their 4th quarter lead once the BMeg Llamados' James Yap and Best Import Denzel Bowles started putting shots together.
From slashing into the paint to knocking down threes, Castro by himself broke down the Llamados' under-rated yet overly effective and suffocating defense. Put a big guard on him and he'll just beat them with his speed. Put a smaller guard on him and he'll use his big man for a simple pick, and either make a nice pass or drill in a three.
Castro was so dominant and effective on the floor in the end game, that Texters coach Chot Reyes had no other choice but to keep veteran guard and reigning PBA MVP Jimmy Alapag glued to the bench and only sent him in the final minute for mo-up duty.
Every time we get to see Castro on the floor for the Texters, taking over and not being passive, it makes it hard not to be a non-Texters fan. Specially if you remember that this guy, who's just insanely good despite being injured, will be wearing PILIPINAS colors in a few months.
Siguro naman, pwede ng ayusin ng iba ung pangalan niya. Pati sa Wikipedia. It's Jayson Williams Castro, Jayson with a "Y."
He's earned as much.
