If the Barako Bull Energy ever decide that they're in the league to compete as a legit franchise and not the butt of all jokes re whatever the hell kind of product is printed on their jerseys, then they need 2-time PBA MVP Willie Miller to wake up.
Everything has gone downhill for Miller-- from averaging 17 points in the eliminations, 15 in the quarterfinals and now 10 in the semis, the guy is in an obvious funk. It's bad enough that he's suffering a rare scoring slump, but he's also being asked to check speedsters Jimmy Alapag and Jayson Castro on defense.
Granted, Miller is trying to make up for it on different sides of the floor by helping in the rebounding department (7 rpg in both semis games played) but coach Joel Baculi has other guys for that. What Miller needs to do is take advantage of his bulk and ask for the ball in the post against Alapag or even the ultra athletic, ultra-quick Castro. Baculi can help by switching Wyne Arboleda back to the PG spot and giving Miller some different looks.
The Texters of course will be sure to counter that by sending Ryan Reyes over, and that's going to be a fun match-up that could either inspire Miller or make him even more timid on offense.
That, or are we seeing the last couple of games from Miller much like the opposite of how Danny Seigle is enjoying a vintage-run in these playoffs?
