Don Allado: Cry Wolf

Father forgive him for he has sinned
In case you're not up to speed, click here first to read about Barako Bull Energy's Don Allado now infamous Twitter rants before reading the rest of this entry.

Allado, he of the multiple collegiate (DLSU Green Archers) and professional (mostly with Alaska, Purefoods/ BMeg and Talk 'n' Text) championships and now starting forward for the Energy, is making all the newsrounds with his sweeping claims that the PBA games are fixed to favor certain teams. This, following a horrid 7 point, 3 rebound performance in 20 minutes of play wherein he fouled out and his team lost 99-95 to the Powerade Tigers.

Do I believe that there's fixing in professional sports? Hell yes. If it can happen in the amateurs, moreso in the pro ranks. That's part of life. This isn't a dream world, we're not virgins here, we know (or have a working idea) of how the world works.

But did the referees call yesterday's game in favor of the Tigers? Did they deserve to be suspended by PBA commissioner Chito Salud and the technical committee as reported by some circles?

No and no.

Allado and the rest of the Energy went berserk in the end game when Tigers import Omar Sneed lost his balance just underneath the ring, and was pretty much stuck there on his back for a good ten to fifteen seconds.

Why was he stuck there?

Because Allado was standing over him. Literally. Like pornstars would when they'd pee on someone or give their partner a "scenic" view. Why the hell would a ref call that? It wasn't a foul on Allado because there's no contact, you could call three seconds on Sneed (which they should've) based on the book-- but other than that you can't really say that the zebras were siding with the Tigers.

Time and again Allado was being out rebounded by the likes of Sean Anthony, Josh Vanlandingham and even JVee Casio.

He fouled out because his lead guards: Willie Miller, Celino Cruz and even Ronald Tubid, failed to close out and kept giving their covers driving lanes which forced Allado into bad, fouling, situations.

Were they getting the shorter end of the stick?

Maybe. But it was more because they appeared sluggish and plainly going through the motions while the Tigers were being aggressive and just initiating contact all day.

Much like how jumpshooters would complain that their opponents, who are slashers by trade, get all the calls and go to the free throw line a lot.

Go figure.

  1. The guy wants to be on TV, radio, podcasts, on the news. He wants to be talked about. Just read Ali Peek's (his wedding bestman, so I assume his bestfriend) taunts/jokes to him a few months back. He is PBA's version of Kris Aquino.

His "papansin" comments are not only a disrespect to the league but also to its fans.
