Bust-a-move

Author's note: Happy new year!

Hype is a terrible thing; it can build you up just as fast as it can bring you down. The PBA and its fans have seen its fair share of “hyped” rookies, baptized as “franchise saviors” who ended up being role players on a different team at best.

Here is our short list of “hyped” players who did not exactly live up to expectations:

Moala Tautuaa, TnT 2015 1st pick
We are still waiting for the “Junemar-stopper.” And while we are at it, for Tautuaa to develop anything close to a post-up game.

Matt Ganuelas Rosser, TnT 2014 3rd pick
He got locked in Jong Uichico’s doghouse, but now that he’s freed by Coach Nash Racela, we’re still not seeing anything stellar out of this former Gilas player as he continues to play like a skinny, long-haired Jon Ordonio.

James Forrester, Barako Bull/ Ginebra 2013 4th pick
"Naipit sa Ginebra loaded kasi." "Sana ma trade para mabigyan ng chance." *gets traded to Barako Bull, NLEX, Blackwater* "Ay wala talaga."

Baser Amer, Meralco 2013 7th pick
Granted, no one was expecting Amer to “save” Meralco, but we did expect him to kind of mirror former college coaches Ronnie Magsanoc and Boyet Fernandez somehow. Plus, wasn’t he the chosen “heir” to Jimmy Alapag?

Ian Sangalang, Star 2013 2nd pick
Sidelined by an injury, was never the same again. Not sure he was ever something even in his rookie year though.

Aldrech Ramos, Barako Bull 2012 5th pick
Still shooting jumpshots, still can’t move his feet quick enough laterally.

Chris Ellis, Ginebra 2012 6th pick
He can dunk with the best of them, that’s for sure. Also, that starter pack is a toss up between him and that Buensuseco (?) dude. Yeah, also a dud.

Chris Luz, San Miguel 2011 3rd pick
Well at least he’s winning off the court with his bae.

Noy Baclao, Air21 2010 1st pick
From ADMU Tayshaun Prince to PBA bit player.

Rabeh Al Hussaini Air21 2010 2nd pick
A skilled big man who took a long time (and some layoff) to mature. To this day, he is still looking for Noy Baclao on the weakside to play defense for him.

Who else should've made the list? We went with the most hyped guys from 2010-2015 obviously, let us know who we missed! @kilikilishot on Twitter
