The game had all the elements of a classic: starpower, hot-shooting for both sides, physicality, taunting, bum calls that could've changed the outcome of the match-- and those are words to cover the regulation period at that! For the Beermen, they were led by the usual suspects: 3x PBA MVP Junemar Fajardo 25p 17r, 1x PBA MVP Arwind Santos 17p 15r 5a, Alex Cabagnot 14p 3r 3a with some much needed support from RR Garcia 17p and Yancy de Ocampo 12p.
The Elastopainters on the other hand did their usual thing of "spreading out the offense" with Jeff Chan 11p, Chris Tiu 13p, Beau Belga 14p, Maverick Ahanmisi 9p and Dexter Maiquez 8p. Surprisingly misfiring was Jericho Cruz, but we'd like to give the Beermen credit for starting the game with defensive specialist Chris Ross on Cruz right away.
Just a few game notes:
- The Beermen started the game waxing hot from the outside, but they weren't exactly keeping the Elastopainters at bay either.
- Fajardo was reduced to more of a bystander early, with Belga doing an excellent job in just denying him the basketball and when he did receive, RoS kept sending help to bother Fajardo's dribble.
- Cabagnot was on fire in the 1st quarter.
- So was Santos.
- Then came the 2nd unit, and that's where RoS made its move behind the unheralded Dexter Maiquez.
- Seriously, this Maiquez guy is cut from the RoS cloth of being big, beefy and can shoot the three (he made two in the 2nd).
- Gabby Espinas with hair... he should've kept this look when he was younger. Dude looks good.
- Speaking of hair, we hate AVO's hair.
- Silver, come on.
- RoS does a bad job in setting up James Yap. The guy is a 2x PBA MVP, and so far in big games (Ginebra, Star, San Miguel) the guy keeps being glued to the bench.
- Seriously, Caloy Garcia, what's up?
- R.R. Garcia is crazy efficient when he wants to score. We think he got the memo from Coach Leo: don't think, just score.
- Dexter Maiquez is Ronnie Matias' beefy little brother.
- 4th quarter. Here comes the Beermen!
- Jericho Cruz is starting to hum.
- Why is James Yap on the bench?
- Fajardo is back in. Fajardo controls the paint.
- Belga trying his best, Fajardo is no longer dribbling, he's just looking to shoot. RoS fouling now.
- What a finish!
- Alex Cabagnot you are a bad, bad man.
- Captain Crunch just sounds better than Crunchman.
- Jeezoos Quinito. Just retire already.
- OT. Fajardo flexing. This one's over.
- Belga and Ross getting into it. Ross with the end-game two-ball.
- Bang bang bang for you, Beau.
