#NarvasaResign

Man on fire

It has been a while, and we are quite thankful that there are some of you who still patronize this page and digest whatever understanding of Philippine basketball we have to offer despite the dwindling number of entries.

We have apologized quite a few times already, so there is no point in adding yet another paragraph just to do so. Long story short: life happens.

That being said, PBA Commissioner Chito Narvasa has recently come under fire after 1) approving a "lopsided" trade that sent the 2017 PBA Draft 1st pick Christian Standhardinger to the San Miguel Beermen and 2) revealing that it was TNT personnel Magnum Membrere who processed Standhardinger's Draft Application, which put TNT under a bad light obviously.

Those two moves, perhaps the second more than the first, appears to have been the last straw that broke the camel's back. Seven members of the PBA Board (TNT, Meralco, NLEX, Alaska, Rain or Shine, Phoenix and Blackwater) immediately called for Narvasa's ouster, opting to have longtime PBA official Rickie Santos as the officer-in-charge.

This move was met by a press conference of course, with Narvasa enjoying the endorsement of San Miguel, Ginebra, Star, GlobalPort and Kia. Unsurprisingly enough, the line between Team MVP and Team SMC was clearly drawn for all to see with revelations rampant on social media that GlobalPort and Kia are owned by the San Miguel Corporation

Narvasa said that he will not give up his post, and that everything must be done according to the league's by-laws and not "on a whim." According to reports, to be removed from his post, the board will need 8 members to oust him on a 2/3 vote. Seven voted him off, which means, they don't have any legal and binding grounds to go with to get him out.

Can the #NarvasaResign team sway GlobalPort and or Kia?

We doubt it. Given the ownership.

Can #NarvasaStay movement sway any of the independent teams?

We think so. Alaska, Rain or Shine, Phoenix and Blackwater all have "needs" that we're sure Team SMC could work on

Will Narvasa stay?

Honestly, we think that he will. But we hope that he doesn't. Just to keep the league's peace. The way the PBA is right now, with Team MVP and Team SMC armed with 3 votes each, they should just be taken out of the equation. Leave it to the independents to decide. That means, Narvasa's fate should be in the hands of Alaska, Rain or Shine, Phoenix, Blackwater, GlobalPort and Kia.

That's 4-2. That's a clean majority. 2/3 whatever.

Which means, right now, if we took out the big teams, that's the current scenario. Majority of the indies have lost faith in Narvasa-- who isn't exactly big with the media and fans.
