And the number 1 pick in the 2014 PBA Draft goes to...

Two balls. One well covered box. A dutiful PBA Commissioner who doesn't seem to understand the concept of showmanship.

How appalling.

Where's the drama? Where's the "ït" factor? The surprise?

As you may know, prior to the PBA Governor's Cup Finals Game 1 between the grand slam-seeking San Mig Coffee Mixers and defiant Rain or Shine Elastopainters, there was a "draw" held to choose which among the Elastopainters (via Meralco) and GlobalPort Batang Pier will get to pick first in the next PBA Draft. Now, in the NBA, they do this via lottery. With a lot of balls, and a couple of teams in the running.

Not with two huge balls. Definitely not with the PBA Commissioner's guiding hand safely inside the box leaving us all wondering-- he put the Elastopainters' ball in first, then the BatangPier ball with his hand that he never really bothered to pull out in the interest of fairness and transparency. So, what's to keep us from thinking that he NEVER let go of the BatangPier ball the minute he put it inside the box? What if the whole thing was rigged and all for show?

Some show anyway.

Where's the hype? The hoopla?

This is part of what's wrong with the PBA and whoever it is that came up with this "draw a ball from a box" segment.

They could've spun a wheel Kwarta o Kahon, Laban o Bawi style. They could've brought in some of their PBA halftime dancers (the ones who performed in Game 1, with affiliation unknown) to dance some and present the totems for Batangpier and the Elastopainters in Wowowee Luningning fashion.

Hell, isn't Willie Revillame coming back to TV5? Why couldn't they make a few phone calls and get his team on the segment to give it a better treatment?

We'll give the PBA Commissioner a free pass on this one, based on everything he's accomplished the last few years for the league and its fans. But someone needs to fire his creative team ASAP.

E di sana toss coin na lang.
