Reinventing the PBA All Star Game

Here's something for all you fantasy basketball lovers out there and in a way, to "revitalize" the PBA All Star Weekend and increase the stakes a bit: a pocket tournament that will feature the best that all of the league's factions have to offer.

We all know that there are two major forces that is moving the PBA: Team San Miguel Corporation (San Miguel, Ginebra, Purefoods) and Team Manny V. Pangilinan (Talk'n'Text, Meralco, NLEX). We also know that there are two full-fledged independent teams in Alaska and Rain or Shine while rumors are rampant about how Barako Bull and GlobalPort are both farm teams looking to sell its prized players to the highest bidder. And since the jury's still out on newcomers Blackwater and Kia (plus they don't really have top-tier talent at the moment), we opted to include them into the "farm" All Stars.

Hope this fun little boredom-killer of a post gets you excited and who knows, it might just be picked up by the pros as a possible money-making machine. Because seriously, who really wants to see the "North" play against the "South?" Might as well just rename it to "Manila-Pampanga et. al. vs Cebuanos and friends."

Team MVP All Stars

PG Jayson Castro - you simply can't have a Team MVP All Stars without FIBA Asia 2012's Best Point Guard. Castro simply trumps Mike Cortez, Ryan Reyes and Jonas Villanueva all in a heart beat so this one's a given.

SG Matthew Ganuelas Rosser - Though he's not a natural 2, Rosser is just too hard to leave out of this line-up with the stat-stuffing numbers he's been constantly posting despite playing in a loaded TNT line-up. Gary David's nice, but the window to his superstardom seems to be closing fast.

SF Jarred Dillinger - A multi-skilled forward who does his best work on the open court and when given the greenlight to basically attack the basket.

PF Ranidel de Ocampo - Ang Dalubhasa. The best damn power forward in the whole Philippines today. Enough said.

C Asi Taulava - it's funny how Team MVP just can't win over the "masa." Well, we don't see that changing any time soon with their power house TNT team (unless of course RdO stars in more commercials with deadpan-delivery one-liners), but if there's one guy who the masses have come to really embrace over the years outside of the ever so serious Jimmy Alapag-- it's no other than The Rock.

Team SMC All Stars

PG Mark Barocca - sorry L.A. Tenorio fans, but his knack for throwing on-court tantrums is starting to be a bit tiring so might as well go with a two-way point like Barocca who is on his way to being one of the best ever under the continued tutelage of Tim Cone.

SG PJ Simon - this is a tough one, considering there's James Yap AND Mark Caguioa to choose from as well. But seriously, which among the three mentioned names has been balling consistently for his team as of late? Caguioa's old, Yap's been inconsistent. Simon? He's been very reliable (and under the radar) the last two-three conferences.

SF Arwind Santos - still one of the best wing defenders and stretch fours in the league despite his recent struggles this conference

PF Joe DeVance - he's basically the Afro-American, goofy Ranidel de Ocampo, with point guard skills and a mean twerk game.

C Junemar Fajardo - reigning PBA MVP, and our bet to win maybe 1 or 2 more before he chooses to retire (hopefully, that's still 12-15 years away from today)

Team Indie

PG Paul Lee - because nothing says ANGAS than watching Forevermore and going public with it.

SG Dondon Hontiveros - still the best damn clutch shooter out there today. When he's on, he's on.

SF Gabe Norwood - FIBA Gabe. FIBA Gabe.

PF Calvin Abueva - perfect fit for an "Indie" team, yes?

C Sonny Thoss - Top 4 center in the PBA when healthy (and motivated)

Team Farmer's Market

PG Sol Mercado - in a world without Castro and Lee, Mercado would've been the best damn combo guard in all of the PBA.

SG Terrence Romeo - the best damn shooting guard today. Emphasis on the shooting.

SF JC Intal - Wala ako malagay na small forward e. Tsaka iba na yung babad.

PF Mark Isip - blue collar, tireless worker. Zaldy Realubit-like career for Isip (solid big man, but never the go-to-big man)

C Reil Cervantes - this guy wants it. He just doesn't seem to get it. But he wants it.
